KC - Elections in a democratic republic should reflect a "mandate" of the people. None of the winning candidates in this election received anything close to a mandate:

Laurie Sperry received 28% of the possible 12,777 votes in Kenmore
Bob Hensel received 33% of the possible 12, 777 votes in Kenmore
Allan Van Ness received 26% of the possible 12, 777 votes in Kenmore

These numbers show clearly that the citizens of Kenmore truly took their (collective) eye off the ball. After a showing like this, it should surprise no one that the City Council can build an $18,000,000 city hall without a vote or citizen approval, or make deals with developers that drag on and on, and spend a lot of taxpayer dollars without worrying if anyone will notice.

I certainly hope the winners in this election can move Kenmore into the 21st Century, I really do; however, if the past is any indication of what we should expect, plan on more spending, fewer businesses and a city council that does whatever it wants without asking you or me what we think.
