I disagree, Melinda. While I do see the importance of protecting wildlife, I believe the McMenamins/St. Edwards failure thing was had nothing to do with wildlife danger. The failure was due to a strong NIMBY influence over the City Council, stemming from residential fear about having McMenamins nearby, with wild drinking parties--OMG!. PLUEEEZE, people! SOMETHING has to be done with St. Edwards, because it is a treasure that is crumbling. McMenamins would have put the money in to restore the facility. But...you know how Kenmore's operating these days, so...St. Edwards just sits...dying a slow and unneeded death. Maybe Bastyr will have a use for it someday, but that's a pipe dream, eh?

forgive the typing/spelling - i am feeding a baby with my left hand.

just a heads up, a big reason for not promoting the pub chain (which i went to often living in pdx) in st ed's was the impact it would have on the park's wildlife - not just the boozers. ever been to kennedy school? then you have seen their parking lot and st ed's is our only st ed's. drive the wildlife out and it is very hard to encourage it back - which is an effort that is underway now, and should be encouraged. the anderson school is a great solution for them which only benefits the area, not alienating anything. support the efforts of maintaining st ed's as a park, not biz park, turning the park into a commercial area, and frequent the bothell location. they have great beer.

a 3 day celebration is not a contradiction, as again, the main point was not the boozers, but the environmental impact of a permanent pub chain. the beer fest is 3 days. check out how much wildlife you can find though on that 3rd day... maybe a squirrel?

Hi Crow!

Why I totally agree with you! McMenamins would have been the best thing to happen to the City of Kenmore and St. Edward Park that is now at potentially at risk of being closed. The pool and the old building is in dire need of restoration and this all would have been accomplished not to mention the jobs this would have provided the Kenmore Community. This property would have been leased and not purchased and the State and the City would have a wonderful place for all to enjoy.

Yes Crow, there is a certain irony here.

I've read and heard more newsprint spin during and after the McM/Park process than most, other than those involved.

I think the "McM-con" group was just more vocal than a "McM-pro" public that is generally apathetic and hard to mobilze.

Cheers!
