Bizarro Benches

Allow me to reappear briefly to discuss something that I find somewhat confusing.

In particular, I am referring to the most bizarre and inexplicable “feature” of the recently-completed grand City Hall: the 68th Ave. benches.

68th Ave. Benches

I wonder if someone would like to attempt to explain the purpose of these benches. I have yet to see even one single person sitting on these benches ever, since they were installed.

I tried giving them a sit for myself. Here is the result:

68th Ave. Bench View

What a view! What a boring view, that is.

So would anyone care to shed some light on these mysterious bizarro benches?

  1. I am sure they put in those benches so that there is a good place to sit and watch while Kenmore Village is finally starting construction in 25+ years ;)

The best part about them is the odd height, the fact that they are not protected from the rain, and that they aren’t close to a bus stop or anything……
They would make more sense if there was a bus stop in my opinion.

  2. My first thought is seating for citizens waiting to bail out loved ones. From jail. Perhaps you can clear up a rumor I’ve heard. The city website isn’t helping. Does the new city hall include a community center and jail? Seriously, neighbors have told me this was part of the new city hall. Considering it’s proximity to the Timbers apartments and mobile home park, two residential sites noted for regular police calls, I’m going to assume this was snark. Is it?
