Do they sell liquor to people that are already super wasted?

Good thing they put up those handwritten signs. Otherwise how would their potential patrons ever have figured out that this location has been closed?

What the What?!? Weird Cable Scarf at 61st & 522
Posted by the Kenmore Crow | Filed under Photo/Video | No Comments Yet!
Spotted this tonight on the northeast corner of 61st Ave NE and NE Bothell Way (SR 522) wrapped around a power pole support cable.
What the heck is it? Was somebody worried that the cable might get cold in the harsh Kenmore winter?
This looks fairly lovingly hand-crafted. I can’t help but feel like I’m missing out on some sort of joke here. And I hate missing out on a good joke. Anybody care to fill me in?

Best Friend Blinds Banish Free Peeks for Bothell Way Drivers
Posted by the Kenmore Crow | Filed under Business | 5 Comments
A couple weeks ago, the Bothell/Kenmore Reporter ran a story that briefly mentioned the coffee stand at 73rd & Bothell Way here in Kenmore…
In Kenmore, Mayor David Baker said City Hall staffers routinely receive complaints regarding Best Friends, many coming from parents who say young children easily can see into the roadside stand. Baker said officials have discussed the issue, but declined to go into details.
“We are aware of it, we do know of it,” he said.
To me that almost sounds like some sort of veiled threat from the Mayor there. Interestingly, as I drive by Best Friend, I have noticed a slight change in the weeks since that story ran.
Pretty much since the story ran, the blinds in the windows facing Bothell Way, which used to stay open, have been closed. Coincidence? Probably not.
Looks to me like Best Friend owner Wayne Hembree caught the hidden message in Mayor Baker’s remarks to the Reporter and decided to preemptively avoid a confrontation with City Hall. Probably a good move.

New Kenmore Fire Department Construction Underway

Work has begun at the site of the new Kenmore Fire Station on the northwest corner of 73rd Ave and 181st St. The trees have come down and the blackberries have been ripped out.
The Northshore Fire Department has a website with some information on the new project, including renderings and site plans for the new location.

It’s Almost Banner Time!
Posted by the Kenmore Crow | Filed under General | 6 Comments
Has anyone else noticed the exciting new development pictured below in the last few days along Bothell Way / SR-522 through Kenmore?
I’m talking about BANNERS! That’s right, unless we’re just making a move for the title of “most pigeon-friendly town of all time,” I’m betting that those poles sticking out horizontally from the light posts are for a set of classy banners.
If you ask me, it’s about time this town got some banners. It is an obvious fact to anyone with a basic understanding of civics that a lack of banners is one of the top things that has been holding Kenmore back from actualizing its full potential as a premier destination.
If you tell me that you can think of something better than banners to spend limited city resources on during a severe economic retraction, you’re probably lying.
At right is a great example of optimal banner usage from our neighbor to the east, Bothell, who uses their banners to promote such unique and attractive local features as lady exiting building while talking on cell phone and wooden foot bridge (not pictured).
So what do you think we should put on our new banners? Construction photos? The shuttered card room? The gravel factory? Downtown Kenmore?
So many choices! If you’ve got any great ideas for what Kenmore should put on our soon-to-come banners, drop me a line and I may whip up some mock-ups to send over to City Hall.
